ZAMBOANGA CITY (Mindanao Examiner / Sept. 26, 2011) – Government troops killed an Abu Sayyaf sub-leader in a clash on village in Zamboanga City in the southern Philippines, officials told the Mindanao Examiner on Monday.
Officials said the fighting broke out late Sunday in the village called Busay and killed Imram Asgari.
“Patrolling soldiers clashed with Abu Sayyaf militants under Imram Asgari and killed him,” said Army Colonel Buenaventura Pascual, commander of the military’s Task Force Zamboanga.
He said there were no reports of military casualties.
The fighting occurred just a week after soldiers also clashed with Asgari’s group killing one of his followers in the village. Pascual said the gang leader was suspected as behind the spate of kidnappings in Zamboanga Peninsula.
It was not immediately known whether Asgari was involved in the kidnapping of a Filipina wife of a British engineer who was rescued by soldiers in nearby Basilan province on September 19.
